Dance Explorers© Summer Camp
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Discover Dance summer camp introduces students to the exciting world of contemporary dance. Working with the professional dancers and teaching artists of HSDC, aspiring young dancers of all abilities will experience professional dance from the ground up, and gain an understanding of how their bodies move and how to communicate through dance using improvisation and structured choreographic activities.

Session 1: Creative Connections
June 21 – 25

Grades K-2 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. $200
Grades 3-6 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.  $250

Each class will explore how contemporary dance is created by learning Lesley Telford’s Page One, created for and performed around the world by Hubbard Street 2, and will then use that experience to create a new work based on themes and processes used in that work.

Session 2: Creative Movement
June 28 – July 2

Grades K-2 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. $200
Grades 3-6 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.  $250

Student will explore choreographic concepts as they start to create movement that is meaningful to them. HSDC’s Youth Program lets the student become the choreographer as young dancers begin to experiment and take risks through movement.

*Session 1 attendance is not necessary for participation in Session 2.

HSDC Dance For Parkinsons©

HSDC is proud to be the oldest Dance for Parkinson’s program in the Midwest. Led by Founding Teaching Artist and former HSDC dance Sarah Cullen Fuller, this program uses contemporary dance techniques to work to slow the progress of the disease, as well as providing a community of support for our students. For more information on this class or to be placed on the waiting list for the next class opening, please email community@hubbardstreetdance.com

“As we dance together, we forget physical limitations typically associated with Parkinson’s Disease…Instead, we focus on possibilities and find inspiration through the possibilities.”

“By challenging me to moves and balances I would never have done on my own, I have been able to expand my physical capacities which had been dormant.”

“I move more freely by the end of class, and my movements are more fluid the next day. But aside from improved movement, my spirit is better. I have shown MYSELF that I can do something that in the everyday world people would say ‘Stop! You can't do that. You will hurt yourself.’”
